MASSIVE PRICE REDUCTION
Matterport Pro3 Price Drops to $6,750 in Australia – Is Now the Time to Buy?
Matterport has significantly reduced the Australian price of its Pro3 Performance Kit, dropping from $10,750 + GST to $6,750 + GST.
That’s a $4,000 reduction – around 37% – and one of the biggest changes we’ve seen to the cost of professional Matterport hardware.
For businesses that have considered investing in their own Matterport camera, but found the upfront cost difficult to justify, the new pricing changes the equation considerably.
It also raises an obvious question:
Why has Matterport reduced the price so significantly?
Why has the Matterport Pro3 price dropped?
Matterport hasn’t announced a specific reason for the reduction, so naturally there has been some speculation.
Some users have wondered whether the reduction could signal a future generation of Matterport hardware. Others point to increasing competition in the 3D scanning and digital twin market.
There may also be a much simpler explanation.
Reducing the upfront cost of the Pro3 makes Matterport accessible to a much larger number of businesses and helps expand adoption of the Matterport platform.
Whatever the commercial reasoning behind the change, there has been no announced replacement for the Pro3, and it remains Matterport’s professional 3D camera for capturing larger buildings, outdoor areas and more demanding environments.
For someone considering purchasing a Pro3, the more important question is therefore not necessarily why has the price changed?
It’s what does the new price mean for the business case?
A very different investment at $6,750
At $10,750 + GST, purchasing a Pro3 required a fairly substantial commitment.
At $6,750 + GST, the economics look quite different.
For property professionals, architects, construction companies, facilities teams, surveyors and other organisations regularly documenting buildings, it becomes considerably easier to justify owning a camera rather than continually outsourcing capture.
And importantly, a Matterport Pro3 isn't limited to producing Virtual Tours.
A single capture can potentially support a range of different applications and deliverables.
What can you do with a Matterport Pro3?
Most people first encounter Matterport through its 3D Virtual Tours, but the technology has evolved into a much broader building documentation platform.
Depending on your requirements, a Matterport capture can be used for:
3D Virtual Tours – remotely navigate buildings from anywhere.
Existing Condition Records – create a visual record of a building at a particular point in time.
Remote Measurements – take measurements without repeatedly returning to site.
Floor Plans – generate 2D plans directly from a completed capture.
Point Clouds – export E57 point cloud data for downstream design and documentation workflows.
CAD Drawings – use captured building information as the starting point for existing-condition drawings.
BIM Models – convert captured spaces into BIM models for refurbishment, design and facilities applications.
Facilities Management – provide teams, contractors and consultants with remote access to buildings and building information.
This is where the business case for Matterport can become much stronger.
Instead of asking “How often will we use a Virtual Tour?”, it can be more useful to ask:
“How often do we need to capture, measure, document or revisit a building?”
Who does the Pro3 suit?
The Pro3 is Matterport’s professional camera and is particularly well suited to organisations capturing commercial properties and larger environments.
Typical users include:
Architects & Designers
Capture existing buildings before refurbishment or design work and use the resulting information for measurements, point clouds, CAD and BIM workflows.
Construction Companies
Document project conditions, capture progress and provide project teams with a visual record of the site.
Facilities & Property Teams
Allow staff, contractors and consultants to inspect buildings remotely before attending site.
Commercial Property Professionals
Create Virtual Tours, Floor Plans and other property information for leasing, sales and ongoing property management.
Insurance & Building Professionals
Create detailed visual records of buildings and existing conditions.
For organisations managing multiple buildings or regularly attending different sites, the ability to revisit a building virtually can also reduce unnecessary travel and repeat site inspections.
Should you wait for the next Matterport camera?
Whenever there is a significant hardware price reduction, it's reasonable to wonder whether a new model could be coming.
At the time of writing, Matterport has not announced a replacement for the Pro3.
Technology will inevitably continue to evolve, but purchasing equipment ultimately comes down to whether it provides a return for your business today.
If your organisation already has a use for 3D capture, the reduction from $10,750 to $6,750 + GST substantially reduces the upfront investment required to bring that capability in-house.
Remember: the camera is only part of the Matterport ecosystem
Before purchasing a Pro3, it's important to understand that Matterport is more than the camera itself.
Matterport captures are processed and managed through the Matterport platform, with different subscription plans available depending on the number of spaces you need to host and the features your organisation requires.
There are also optional outputs available depending on how you intend to use your captures, including Floor Plans, MatterPaks, E57 point clouds and BIM files.
Choosing the right setup at the beginning can make a significant difference to both the ongoing cost and the value you get from the technology.
